Gary is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina. He works with faculty and staff to improve the quality of student learning, increase enrollment, and help students find deeper meaning in their educations and careers. His research focuses on the intersection of history, education, and civic life, and he has published a book and dozens of articles on that topic. He has served as Executive Editor for the Journal for Civic Commitment since 2009.
